The Art of Staying In Business As A Graphic Designer

Hey there, future/current/past adults and fellow daydreamers/thinker/wonderers/makers!

Life has this funny way of whispering in your ear like those devil/angel thingies. “Go get a well-paying job”, it says to you with selfconfidence, as if that’s the golden ticket to happiness and unicorn fluff. Spoiler alert: It ain’t always so cut and dry.

So, names! Call me Kitty. Or Katherine, whichever tickles your fancy. Though let’s save Kathy for my mom. Yup, I’m a Katherine Jr. While this page will function as my About for now, you get more info. about me in my FAQ.

I took the leap—the jump into the thrilling unknown! Passion was my fuel, getting my hands all artsy and crafty as a graphic designer. Oh boy, has it been a wild ride. A bit like trying to paint with one color and then discovering a whole new palette and—whoa—a rainbow bursts out from your paintbrush. (Slightly dramatic, I admit, but much more accurate.)

Sure, I’ve had my fair share of bumps and bruises. Love what you do, and you’ll never work a day? Pffft, whoever said that didn’t meet my deadlines or hear the daily drone of “A robot can do it cheaper” pirouette through the air. But hey, every story needs an antagonist, right? Enter AI. Not the Terminator, though that would be cool too. No. It’s not the big bad wolf I thought it was—it’s more like the skeptical kitty eyeing me from across the room seeing if I want to play with her. Challenge accepted.

I digress, but you know, in this wild whirlwind of adulthood, we’re kinda like kids at heart trying on big shoes. Balancing love and livelihood? That gig is rougher than a sketch on scrap paper. But I indulge my inner child here. Flipping gallons of art, dousing heaps of insight, and sprinkling dollops of whimsy into this little bloggy world. It’s my personal sanctuary, really (you’re invited).

Now, am I making it in the grand adult relay race? Sure! In comparison to a hamster in a performance art wheel, maybe (hamsters don’t do art… aptly demonstrates purpose, though). It’s cliché, but life truly depends on perspective.

Why should you stick around? Well, dear reader, we navigate this grand tapestry of growth and curiosity together! I’ll admit right now, I don’t have all the answers. But the childlike wonderhorses sure make the ride more intriguing, don’t they?

Plus, tales of colors dancing through adult life beats monochrome any day, everyday, all day!

So turn the page, embrace the vast, shiny chaos that is life. Because, believe me, when I say: “I’d rather be a curious mess than a neatly compartmentalized shell” is kind of my mantra, kinda my motto, and so here’s to growing without boundaries and love without limits!
